How do I keep my film camera in good condition?

1. Handle it properly

Handle your camera with care and use a strap to have a better grip of your camera while using it. Avoid getting it wet as moisture can damage your shutter and lens.

Also take note that saltwater will easily corrode the insides of your camera, so if you’re taking your film camera to the beach or underwater, take extra precautions not to get saltwater into it, or make use of cases such as the Simple Use Underwater Case for the Lomography Simple Use Camera and the Lomo Krab Underwater Housing for the Lomo LC-Wide and the LC-A+.

2. Clean it regularly

Since many film cameras have been around for decades, it’s good to regularly clean your camera. This also includes sending it for a CLA (clean, lube, adjust) or serviced with professional camera repairers for any issues observed.

3. Store it properly

Avoid storing your camera in direct sunlight for a long time. Also always cover the lens with a lens cap when not in use for a long period of time to avoid dust settling on the exposed lens. As well as this you should use a good camera bag to make sure your camera is protected from any bumps when you’re out and about.

Additionally, consider removing batteries if you’re not planning to use your camera for a long time to avoid battery leaks resulting in damage.
